Cycling breaks FAQs

Can RAWcycles arrange accomodation for us?

RAWcycles works with a number of great value, good quality and friendly partner accomodation esatblishments. This allows us to negotiate special rates to suit suit every budget.

Can the ride be tailored to my needs?

Being a small flexible business RAWcycles can customise rides to suit your unique requirements.  We can also arrange rides for hen and stag groups, birthday parties, celebrations, corporate occasions,  family groups, tour parties and groups with specialists interests.

Can I bring my own bike?

Of course you can; just bear in mind that:

  • It needs to be suitable for road and trail riding

  • You need to be able to carry your lunch, spare clothes, tools etc.

  • We might not have the right spare parts if your bike breaks down.

All of our partner accomodation establishments have secure parking facilities for bicycles.

Do you provide refreshments and snacks?

Our accomodation partners can provide whatever  food you require for the days ride. Whether its snacks or a packed lunch, be sure to ask when you check in and everything will be ready for your ride.  Of course, if you'd prefer to stop in a cafe or pub along the route, please let RAWcycles know and we will plan your ride so that we find the best food stop.

What if only one of us wants to ride?

Thats not a problem. What ever your partner wants to do, RAWcycles can advise of the best places locally,

Sample itineray

One-day tour via Winchester

Approximately 100-120km (5-7 hours)

After breakfast RAWcycles meets you and fellow guests at your chosen accomodation. RAWcycles carries out a safety check of your bike and make sure that it fits you perfectly.

After a safety briefing, we hit the road for the first time following quiet county lanes (or off road tracks). We head through the Candover valley passing trout streams, watercress bed and mills. Alresford, a beautiful Georgian Town which for many centuries was a prosperous wool town, is our first stop.

We head out of Arlesford via the beautiful villages of Cheriton, Titchbourne and Avington, where thatched cottages sit alongside traditional pubs, with ancient farmland stretching into the distance. We get a chance to view the site of a Civil War Battle as we progress to the historic  cathedral city of Winchester, a former capital of England and home to King Arthur.  Here we can stop in the cathedral grounds or one of the many outdoor cafes for a longer lunch break if required.

Our journey heads north via the attractive villages of Wonston, Stoke Charity and Micheldever, where fresh water chalk streams meander through fertile green fields nestling alongside thatched cottages and flint construction dairy farms.

As we head back to your accomodation for a well deserved rest, we encounter the modern architecture of Basingstoke and the vibrancy of Festival Place, its modern 21st century town centre.

What happens in bad weather?

RAWcycles will only cancel or postpone a ride if the conditions are exceptionally bad and we consider it to be unsafe to cycle.  Whenever possible, we will wrap ourselves up in appropriate clothing and go for it!  Trust us, the experience is worth it…
